Ways to Detoxify

    Q. What is Chelation?

    A. Chelation is the process of
    removing a heavy metal from
the bloodstream by means of a
chelate, as in treating lead or
    mercury poisoning.

*Although we believe the above recommendation to be safe and effective, epsom salt baths are not
recommended for those with diabetes or other serious medical conditions. If you are in question whether or
not it is safe for your child to take these baths, please consult your health care practitioner.
There are three primary methods of chelation used for children with autism; oral,
topical, and intravenously. I chose to do oral chelation, as it seemed to be the best
choice for my son. Chelation should be conducted and monitored by your health care
    practitioner.

Chelation is a temporary treatment, as it can take a toll on the body if done for a
prolonged period of time. We were able to monitor the progress of Jake's chelation by
conducting a simple periodic urine test. Once his test results showed no indication of
metals present in the body, we stopped chelation and continued to maintain a toxic-
    free environment.

However, since toxins are everywhere, we use several methods of natural
detoxification to offset the accumulation of toxins in the body. Those methods are
    discussed below.
Ways To Detoxify

perspiration, and respiration. To aid in detoxification, try one or more of the suggestions below.

  • Avoiding constipation - Since toxins are carried out of the body through waste, it is important
not to be constipated. Although supplements may be necessary for more severe constipation
issues, please visit our high fiber
  • page for foods that can help avoid this issue.

  • Deep breathing - Besides being a great way to reduce stress and immediately calm the body,
deep breathing helps oxygenate the blood and remove toxins. When breathing in, fill the stomach
with air and allow it to protrude, much like a newborn baby breathes. Slowly exhale and repeat.

  • Deep tissue massage - When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients. This
leads to inflammation and the build-up of toxins in muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps
loosen muscle tissues, releases toxins from muscles, and helps blood and oxygen circulate
properly. Because of the release of toxins during massage, it is important to drink plenty of water
afterwards to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

  • Epsom salt baths - There are many health benefits of epsom salt baths.  For detoxification
purposes, epsom salt baths flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells and assist the body in
eliminating other harmful substances. They reduce inflammation, improve oxygen use, increase
absorption of nutrients, and formation of joint proteins and brain tissue. Soak in a tub with 2 cups
epsom salt several times a week.*

  • Fluids - If the body is not sufficiently hydrated, the cells will draw water from the bloodstream,
and will burden the heart. Even mild dehydration prevents the kidneys from effectively purifying
the blood. Toxins need to be flushed out of the body, and clean, purified water is one of the best
    ways to do so.

  • Sweating - The skin is sometimes referred to as the third kidney, because of its incredible ability
to detoxify. Through exercise or the use of infrared saunas, producing sweat clears toxins from
the body. The rise in body temperature will generally bring immune system enhancement, and an
increase in white-blood cells production, metabolism, heart rate and blood flow.

  • Qigong - A combination of meditative, relaxation and visualization techniques in the form of a
series of gentle and flowing moves. Qigong cleanses the body's organs of environmental and
dietary toxins, regulates energy, restores balance to the body, and restores healthy functioning
of the lymphatic system and the prevention of illness.
